School board OKs price for Ryan renovations
08:25 AM CDT on Wednesday, July 2, 2008
In a very short midday meeting Tuesday, Denton school board members approved the “guaranteed maximum price” for renovations and additions to Ryan High School.
According to board information, the members approved $22,047,083, plus $90,765 for flooring and $10,250 for relocation of portable buildings.
In May, the board approved $1,074,372 for a paving package at the school.
The construction total comes to $23,222,470, with a fund balance of $223,610, according to the district.
The work will include new classrooms, a new field house and updates to the library.
In the November bond election, voters approved $30.6 million for work to be done at Ryan.
In addition to the $23 million-plus for construction on Ryan projects, there will be other needs at Ryan, said Norm Sisk, executive director of operations. The needs include furniture, fixtures and equipment for the new classrooms.
In other action, school board members approved a revision to the district’s policy on medical examinations and communicable diseases under employment requirements and restrictions.
The change would require students from higher learning institutions wanting access to the district’s students for training purposes, such as internships, to submit a statement that they were examined for tuberculosis if they have immigrated to the United States from countries where tuberculosis is considered an epidemic.
The statement would need to indicate whether they are free from TB or under treatment and considered “non-communicable.”
