Al dente, with a touch of twang

Couple to break out the instruments after cleaning dishes

10:26 AM CDT on Thursday, May 1, 2008

Husband-and-wife music-makers John and Michele Law will play their brand of sweet, folksy music Saturday night at the Town and Country Coffeehouse. Before they get to strumming, though, they’ll lead a pasta-making workshop. The Laws are as passionate about cooking as they are about playing — they have a cookbook and cooking show appearances to prove it.

The Canadian duo can pick like a pair of Irish traditional players, and they’re poised to add their name to the ranks of Americana up-and-comers. They aren’t exactly purists. Jon and Michele Law have been known to test a little jazz in their music, and can bring straight-up country twang to a narrative winner.

When they stop in North Texas on Saturday night, they’ll feed bellies first and souls later. The pair will talk attendees through the steps of making homemade pastas, including ravioli, penne and fettuccine. At 8 p.m., the duo will charm the audience with their music.
