Drive-through window of opportunity

Morgan Spurlock to speak at UNT

11:55 AM CST on Thursday, November 6, 2008

If you’ve ever wondered how something that sounds like a late-night college bet (“I bet you can’t eat a McDonald’s ‘supersized’ meal three times a day for a month!”) turns into a blockbuster documentary, check out director-writer Morgan Spurlock next Thursday night at the University of North Texas.

Morgan Spurlock, whose runaway hit Super Size Me found the writer-director pounding fast food to show viewers its true effects, will speak at the University of North Texas on Thursday, Nov. 13.

Spurlock, who insists that fast food is fattening America in his 2004 runaway hit Super Size Me, will speak at 7:30 p.m. on Nov. 13 at the Silver Eagle Suite. Since becoming a sought-after director, Spurlock launched 30 Days, a documentary television experiment on FX that asks participants to walk a mile in someone else’s moccasins.

Super Size Me received an Oscar nomination, the Writers Guild of America Best Documentary Screenplay Award and best director prizes at the Sundance Film Festival and the Edinburgh Film Festival. Spurlock also wrote Don’t Eat This Book: Fast Food and the Supersizing of America.

Tickets cost $20 for the general public; $10 for UNT faculty and staff with ID, senior citizens (60 and older) and non-UNT students; and free for UNT students with ID.
