Fit for the whole family
10:33 AM CDT on Thursday, May 1, 2008
The American Heart Association means to help local families embark on a summer of activity — safe activity.
The association joins the Denton school district and a host of local gyms in a Family Fitness, Health and Safety event.
It begins with a one-mile fun run and a 5K run-walk at the top of the morning.
Mid-morning, local health and fitness businesses and area schools will perform demonstrations. And Denton elementary schools will dispatch students to host fitness activities.
Speakers will discuss health, nutrition and safety, and attendees can get blood pressure checks. Prizes will be given out, too.
The association aims to get families to adopt habits that are good for the heart, including fun physical activities that relieve stress and tension, and get the body moving vigorously. Denton police and firefighters will be in attendance, and the association will have bounce houses from Excite! Gym & Cheer and Achievers Gym. Giveaways will include admission to summer camps at the University of North Texas, Texas Woman’s University and area high schools. There will also be signed sports items from area high schools, Texas Rangers tickets and more.
