July brings two exhibits

11:29 AM CDT on Thursday, July 2, 2009

Two art exhibits open this month in Denton. Oxide Gallery opened “The Four Elements: Earth, Air, Fire & Water” Wednesday and will have its monthly gallery night from 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday in the downtown gallery, 501 W. Hickory St.

“The Four Elements” is a group show, and the gallery night will be catered by Carino’s Italian restaurant. Oxide has a jury select each show, with the concentration on local artists. The exhibit features art that depicts nature, mostly in paintings and photographs. Admission to gallery night is free.

The Denton-based Visual Arts Society of Texas will open its 41st annual “125-mile Exhibition” with a reception from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. July 10 at the West gallery in the Texas Woman’s University Fine Arts Building.

The society’s summer show invites artists within a 125-mile radius of Denton to enter work.

The exhibit will run through Aug. 6. Gallery hours are 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday. Admission is free.
