Tired of Coach? Auction offers up first-class clutches

10:24 AM CDT on Thursday, May 1, 2008

Ever wished you could get a crack at buying a one-of-a-kind purse?

Thanks to a clever fundraiser by the Greater Denton Arts Council, you can. Just be prepared to bid on your must-have clutch, duffel, shoulder bag or evening pocketbook.

The council hosts the second annual “It’s in the Bag!” on May 8. The evening event offers purses made by local artists, craftswomen and organizations.

Last year, bidders got to choose from purses that re-imagined hats and one that took the Chinese takeout box concept from quick, cheap leftover carton to a sleek, sophisticated accessory for a stylish evening out. Some bags were funny, some were vintage and all of them were original. This year, you’ll find a bag that has lips and even teeth. It’s aptly titled Does It Bite?.

Window shoppers are invited, too. The party will include hors d’oeuvres and drinks, and the auction will be silent.
