Costumer gives tips on research, design for historical garb

09:55 AM CDT on Thursday, May 8, 2008

You can learn how to research and design historical costumes in three easy hours at the Campus Theatre this weekend.

In the May installment of Denton Community Theatre’s Second Saturdays Seminar, “Costumes Through the Ages,” costumer Cynthia Minter Odom leads a seminar about building period costumes.

Odom will explain how to research and make costumes that look authentic, especially for plays set in the past. Odom is currently working for the company for its production of To Kill a Mockingbird.

Odom has a bachelor’s degree in theater arts costume design and makeup art. She worked as an intern at Theatre Tulsa as a costume designer and wardrobe mistress. She has also worked with the Tulsa Opera, Tulsa Ballet and various Broadway touring companies as a designer and wardrobe mistress, including serving as costume designer for the national tour of Broadway’s 1940s Radio Hour.

The Second Saturday Series is an outreach of Denton Community Theatre for those who want to learn more about theater production, whether they are producing shows at church, school or elsewhere.
