Presentation to focus on fallen

Friday’s lecture at Denton County Courthouse enters solemn territory.
“Our Fallen Brothers,” presented by Denton County Sheriff’s Office Chief Deputy Lee Howell, is in conjunction with Law Enforcement Memorial Week.
The presentation focuses on six law enforcement officers slain in the line of duty, all of them from Denton County. The discussion list includes jailer Floyd Coberly, killed in 1897 during an inmate’s escape attempt; Deputy Robert Bruce Parsons, killed in 1925 by thief W.A. Martin; Deputy Sheriff Carl Edward Garrett, killed in 1934 during an illegal liquor raid; Sgt. William Keith Thurston, killed in 1986 in a traffic accident; Texas Ranger Bobby Paul Doherty, killed in 1978 during a drug raid; and Texas Highway Patrol officer Hollis Stephen Lacy, killed in 1980 in an automobile accident during a high-speed chase.
