Rock him with rock hymns

Upcoming concert to feature bands with a message

10:46 AM CST on Thursday, March 11, 2010

Eleven Christian rock groups will gather at the Texas Motor Speedway on March 20 for the Forty Fest — Resonate! 2010 concert.

The all-day event, held from 10 a.m. to 10 p.m., will feature Hawk Nelson, Decyfer Down, Pillar, Emery, Brian “Head” Welch, Project 86, The Letter Black, Wavorly and FlatFoot56.

Texas Motor Speedway is in southwestern Denton County, at 3545 Fort Worth Circle in Fort Worth.

Kristi Thomas, who directs festival marketing, said it is “very current rock music but it has a positive message.”

Thomas believes the concert will be a way for people to get the message of Christianity without going to church.

“Hard rock with a good positive message” is how it is described by Blaine Siske, who created the event.

Siske said he didn’t think there was anything like this available to the youth of North Texas.

Siske, who is in trade show management, and his wife joined three other couples with various music backgrounds to create this event.

“I’m pumped about it just from a fan standpoint,” he said.

Siske hopes this will be an opportunity for people to invite their friends who wouldn’t normally go to church.

He said Brian “Head” Welch, formerly of the band Korn, epitomizes what he hopes this event will do. Welch has said he was addicted to drugs but beat his addiction when he rededicated his life to God.

Thomas said the event will have a casual atmosphere and will include food and activities such as a rock-climbing wall and obstacle course.

Tickets are $29.50 until Friday and $35 thereafter.
