The two Joes
10:53 AM CDT on Thursday, June 25, 2009
You’ve seen him at the Denton Arts & Jazz Festival, and Friday night, you can see Joe Ely in a much more intimate setting.
The Texas native plays a stew of music, bending country around rock and peppering it with honky-tonk and roots. Ely goes on at 10 p.m. at Dan’s Silverleaf, 103 Industrial St. Ely has a long career that has taken him to unlikely places: on tour with Stomp and with the Clash, of all bands. (Ely is immortalized on the background vocals of the Clash’s “Should I Stay or Should I Go?”) Denton’s own Joe Pat Hennen plays before Ely at 9 p.m. Hennen plays folksy, country-flavored rock, and released his album A Little Bit Easy … several years back.
