Uver ends Twilight Tunes’ run tonight

10:47 AM CDT on Thursday, June 25, 2009

By Lori Forgay / Staff Writer

The popular Thursday Twilight Tunes wraps up its 16th year with tonight’s performance by rootsy, swampy blues-rock band Uver. It’s the Denton band’s first Twilight Tunes performance.

“What we like about this venue is that it affords us a demographic we normally wouldn’t get playing coffeehouses and bars,” said Uver member Fritz Schwalm. “Also, it has been really great to see so many folks coming out to the courthouse lawn to see Twilight shows this year.”

Schwalm recognizes it may be a little toasty temperature-wise, but the band will try to keep its cool — and the audience’s — by performing on the Locust Street side of the Courthouse on the Square to make the most of the evening shade. Tonight’s concert is from 6:30 to 8 p.m.

“I know it’s going to be hot, but there’s plenty of shade and it’s time to celebrate summer,” he said.

Twilight Tunes is one of the many programs supported by the Denton Main Street Association, which anyone in the community can join to support downtown and all of its activities.
