Finalists named in battle of bands

So who are the six finalists for Friday’s North Texas Battle of the Bands?

Drum roll, please.

Of the 934 ballots cast by DentonRC.com and Denton Record-Chronicle readers, the most votes selected the September Days as a finalist for the North Texas Battle of the Bands scheduled this Friday at the Murchison Performing Arts Center at the University of North Texas. The competition, which begins at 7 p.m., is sponsored by UNT, the Record-Chronicle, Texas Music Project and Lone Star Attitude Inc.

An alternative rock band, the September Days features Colby Domino on guitars and vocals, Rob Monge on drums and Blake Boysen on bass. The group comes from Frisco.

Judges have revealed the other five finalists:


• The J Walkers — www.ourstage.com/profile/thejwalkers  

The J Walkers with Jordan Burchill on vocals and guitar; Klint Stallons on vocals, fiddle and guitar; Derek Allen on bass; and Jordan O’Leary on drums have been together since 2005. Originally formed to play music for their church, the band has performed in Dallas and Fort Worth clubs using their fiddle-twist on an alternative/bluesy rock sound.


• Scenes and Sirens — www.ourstage.com/fanclub/scenesandsirens  

Mark Rosas and Brian Maddox comprise Scenes and Sirens. According to their MySpace page, the “soul/electroacoustic/rock” group hails from Dallas and has released an EP, The South Will Dance Again, that is available for pre-order on www.smartpunk.com or through their MySpace page at www.myspace.com/scenesandsirens .


• Stalled – www.ourstage.com/fanclub/stalled  

With Nick Rothouse on vocals, Garrett Jensen on drums, Ken Patterson on lead guitar, Caleb Trotter on rhythm guitar and Jacob Wikoff on bass, Stalled was formed in December 2006, according to information on their www.ourstage.com uplink. The band, all of whom are freshmen at Forney High School, released their first CD in June 2007.


• The Remedy Project – www.ourstage.com/fanclub/theremedyproject

The John Lennon Educational Tour Bus will arrive in Denton today. At 10 a.m. Wednesday, the bus will be in front of the UNT Union where people can tour the audio/video recording studio and play instruments available in a tent area. Goodie bags will be available to the first 500 guests.

On Thursday, the bus will be at the Lewisville Guitar Center at 2601 S. Stemmons Freeway.

On Friday, the bus will return to Denton to Fouts Field at UNT in time for the North Texas Battle of the Bands at 7 p.m.

Attendees will participate in selecting the winner through popular voting at the event. Their selections will be taken into consideration by the judges.

UNT alum Rhett Butler will perform on stage after the six finalists to allow judges time to pick the winner.

On Saturday, the winning band will have a recording session aboard the tour bus.

Lone Star Attitude is a Denton-based entertainment production company that focuses on unique aspects of Texas, including music, food and culture. The Texas Music Project is a nonprofit organization dedicated to music education.
