North Texas chorale looking for singers

People who enjoy singing with a group can join the North Central Texas Chorale for its fall season.

The chorale will be singing Mozart’s Requiem as its featured music.

People from all over Denton County make up the group, as well as singers from Gainesville, Muenster and St. Jo.

No audition is required, but the group prefers people who have experience singing with groups and voices that blend well with others. Singers also are encouraged to be able to read music, keep time and sing on pitch.

Rehearsals are scheduled for 7 p.m. Tuesdays at the First State Bank Center for the Performing Arts at North Central Texas College, 1525 W. California St. in Gainesville.

The chorale will begin rehearsing Aug. 31.

For more information, call Mike Linder at 940-727-8189 or Phil Schenk at 940-387-1886.

Denton indie folk musician Sarah Jaffe is headlining her own tour this month.

The singer, who toured with Denton’s Midlake and Norah Jones earlier this year and Lou Barlow earlier this summer, has 16 dates taking her from the Southwest to the West Coast and eventually back to Texas, where she will perform at the Granada Theater in Dallas on Sept. 11.

Jaffe’s debut album, Suburban Nature, has earned a lot of praise, most recently from USA Today.

Ramen Republic plans for exhibition space

Ramen Republic, a new Denton noodle restaurant, plans to be an informal exhibition space for local artists, the owner said.

“Our restored red brick wall is an ideal backdrop for display of local art,” said founder and managing partner Charlie Foster. “We invested in a gallery-quality display system that will allow each artist to properly display their works in the manner in which they please.”

Ramen Republic teamed with the Greater Denton Arts Council to draw up an exhibit plan that will allow artists the chance to display artwork and also market the artwork after the exhibition.

“We hope to be able to have a large variety of artwork, from photographs to abstract art,” Foster said.

Interested artists should contact Foster at charlie@ramenrepublic.biz.
