Denton artist Mary Sigle Morris is the featured artist for September in the 2010 Visual Arts Society of Texas Calendar. Morris said she was inspired by the wildness of a nearby spot in Denton. “An overgrown backyard. Beloved plants left all alone. I’ve come to draw the blooming dogwood tree, to capture its beauty with pen and colored pencil,” she wrote in an artist’s statement. “Shapes of leaves and blooms, twists of vines and branches, God’s creations ‘call my name,’ wanting their images put upon my paper.”
