Farmers Branch artist Gail Cope is the featured artist for October in the 2010 Visual Arts Society of Texas Calendar. Cope said a cohesive work of art is the result of following the mystery a bit. In an artist’s statement, Cope quoted Erich Fromm: “Conditions for creativity are to be puzzled; to concentrate; to accept conflict and tension.” “This quote reflects my attitude every day I am in the studio working,” Cope writes. “With Spider Silk (acrylic, 30 by 40 inches) ... I wanted to incorporate the silk webs with the look of poppies, and add the element of playful bubbles.”
