Three University of North Texas students won $25,000 on Friday in the annual New Venture Creation contest after building a nonprofit animal rescue and rehabilitation business called Nature’s Freedom Wildlife Sanctuary. The competition is sponsored by UNT’s Murphy Enterprise Center.
Jeremy Dean, Blaire Chilcoat and Amanda Stewart, all seniors in the College of Business, expect their company to be fully operational in five years.
Second place and $15,000 went to business student Edwin DuBois, College of Education student Arnel Rolfe and their associate Allen Cater for their financial services firm, Tax Brothers.
Third place and $10,000 went to Paul Passmore, a graduate student in the College of Business, for Figlist.com, a searchable database of local churches.
