Middle school’s state rating moves up

Aubrey Superintendent James Monaco announced Wednesday that state accountability ratings for the school district’s middle school will be elevated from “recognized” to “exemplary” due to an appeal granted by the Texas Education Agency.
On Aug. 14, the district requested that TEA recalculate and adjust the accountability rating for the school. The district stated in its letter that an economically disadvantaged student’s writing results should not be counted in the accountability ratings determination with other Aubrey Middle School students because the pupil tested in another district.
TEA reviewed the appeal and changed the rating because of documentation provided by the district that indicated the student was mobile and did not take the TAKS writing exam in the Aubrey school district. Original state accountability ratings were released Aug. 1.
Monaco, who presented the news at the district’s regular board meeting Wednesday, said the rating change has both teachers and administrators celebrating. “It’s just so exciting when you achieve,” he said.
