Pair sue over area election on alcohol
Two Frisco residents have sued Denton County over a local-option election in Precinct 2 conducted in May, alleging the election was invalid. Residents Al Gibson and Richard Belyan filed suit June 23 in the 158th District Court, asking not only for the election results to be thrown out, but also for the court to issue temporary and permanent injunctions.

Mitchell re-elected to council of governments
Members of the North Central Texas Council of Governments elected a new executive board. Rejoining the board is Denton County Commissioner Bobbie Mitchell. This is her fourth term on the board.

Ruggiere’s old council seat still vacant
CORINTH — Mayor Pro Tem Joe Harrison canceled an executive session discussion slated for the end of the City Council’s regular meeting Thursday, saying “there was nothing to discuss” in relation to the Place 1 vacancy. The seat became vacant in May when Paul Ruggiere won the mayoral race halfway through his second term on the Corinth council. Ruggiere was absent from Thursday’s meeting.

Area City Council may cut member

LAKE DALLAS — The City Council set the stage to remove a fellow member Thursday night after he missed his fourth consecutive meeting. Council member Alan Fletcher has not attended a council meeting since March 12, according to city records. The city charter provides that a council member forfeit his or her seat after unexcused absences from three consecutive, regularly scheduled meetings.

Panel votes for term limit proposal
A Denton resident could serve up to 12 years on the City Council without a break by switching seats, under the final recommendation of a city committee. The Term Limits Charter Review Committee voted 13-4 on Wednesday in favor of the proposal, which now heads to the council for review. The committee last month endorsed an 18-year limit on consecutive council service, but some members said they wanted to tighten the limit to increase the chances of voter approval.

KRUM — City leaders met again Monday evening to formally accept Matt Kilgore’s resignation from the City Council and replace him with Paul Meine, 76, a safety consultant and member of Krum’s economic development corporation.

Krum firing leads to civic turmoil

Krum’s city government is in upheaval after the controversial firing of the public works director prompted two City Council members to resign. Matt Kilgore and Stephanie Thompson resigned in protest Tuesday, a day after the council voted 3-2 to fire Public Works Director Robert Faulkner. Kilgore and Thompson, who voted against the firing, said they could no longer serve under Mayor Terri Wilson’s leadership.
