Name: Paul Shelton
Hometown: Fort Worth
Family: wife, Kim Shelton; children, Hannah and Jonah
Religious affiliation: Baptist
Your role in your faith community: Pastor, Central Baptist Church in Denton
Length of affiliation: 3 1/2 years
Guiding words of wisdom: Isaiah 1:18, “Come now, and let us reason together, saith the LORD: though your sins be as scarlet, they shall be as white as snow; though they be red like crimson, they shall be as wool.”
What is one thing you would like to see people of faith accomplish in your community? I would like to see the Gospel of Jesus Christ delivered to every home in our community.
How has religion changed your life? I don’t believe religion has done anything to change my life. On the other hand, Jesus Christ completely changed my life. Religion is about the works of man. My faith is about the finished work of Christ on the cross of Calvary.
What advice would you give to youth today about involvement in religious life? There is a void in every life that only Christ can occupy. Young people and adults alike attempt to fill the hole with numerous activities. We have many people today that are unsatisfied with their life, because they cannot find a purpose for living in the world. Young people: God loves you and wants your life to be full of meaning and purpose. The purpose of life is found in a relationship with Jesus Christ. Everything the world offers is temporary; God’s gift of salvation is eternal.
