Area election results

• Argyle:

Unofficial results released Saturday night by Argyle ISD showed that candidates Wendee Long and Randy McKellar earned enough to be elected to two vacant seats on the Argyle school board.

Long, an Eagle Mountain-Saginaw school district middle school principal, and McKellar, a former board member and business applications manager, brought in the most votes in the three candidate race and will serve three-year terms in positions left vacant by incumbents Klip Weaver and Russell Ammons who did not seek re-election.

Results show that Long received 178 votes while McKellar collected 171 votes. First-time candidate and lawyer Chad Elsey got 68 votes.

The newly elected trustees will be sworn in to their positions at the district’s next board meeting, May 18.

 

• Aubrey:

Mayor Gary Hammett soundly defeated David Coker by more than a 3-to-1 margin. Hammett received 190 votes, compared with Coker’s 58.

Bill Coffey and Brandon Stinchcomb were unopposed in their bids for the city council.

 

• Aubrey ISD:

According to final results released by the Aubrey school district Saturday night, a challenger out seated an incumbent for the Place 1 seat while current trustees for Place 2 and 3 seats were able to collect enough votes to be elected for another term.

In Place 1, Dr. R. Joey Saxon, a 38-year-old director of purchasing and accounts payable at the University of North Texas earned 360 votes to be elected to the Aubrey school board. Incumbent Ray David, 43-year-old president of Point Bank and an accountant collected 201 votes. Chuck Longhenry, a 42-year-old construction business owner, who also ran for the seat received 32 votes.

In Place 2, 60-year-old retired firefighter and paramedic and incumbent Mike Sessions collected 331 votes to be re-elected to his position while his challenger 58-year-old self employed John Brogdon got 245 votes.

In Place 3, incumbent and senior marketing director and broker Ron Bullock, 52, received 330 votes for to keep his seat on the board while his opponent, Ben Waldron, 36 who’s self-employed, collected 268 votes.

 

• Copper Canyon:

Jeff Mangum and Mark Schmitz won seats on the city council. Mangum garnered 289 votes, while Schmitz garnered 205 votes. Christopher Franks garnered 136 votes.

Mayor Sue Tejml was unopposed and picked up 256 votes.

 

• Corinth:

In Corinth, Paul Ruggiere becomes mayor after beating Shannon Bryan 452 votes to 314. Ruggiere succeeds Vic Burgess, who did not seek re-election. Also, Jim Mayfield defeated Sherry Schneider 416 to 321 for a city council seat. Bruce Hanson was unopposed.

 

• Hickory Creek:

In Hickory Creek, Eric Wiser won Place 5 handily over Randy Wahl. Wiser garnered 302 votes, compared to Wahl’s 37. Lynn Clark and Chris Gordon were unopposed in their races.

 

 

• Lake Dallas:
In Lake Dallas, Karl Hammond won a seat on the City Council by defeating Richard Martin 107 to 73. James Harper and BW Brooks were unopposed in their council races.

 

• Sanger:

In Sanger, Russell Martin defeated Jimmy Evans in Place 3 and incumbent Rusty Patton defeated Samantha Renz. Martin won 195-35, and Patton won 170-59.

 

• Shady Shores:

In Shady Shores Mayor Olive Stephens remains in her seat after defeating Jerry Williams. Stephens, 92. has been mayor of Shady Shores since 1972. She received 257 votes, and Williams garnered 189.

Council members Polly Carter and Betty Brown were unopposed.

 

• Pilot Point:

Department store senior manager Steve Klohn garnered a 122 more votes than his opponent to be elected to the Place 5 seat on the Pilot Point school board Saturday night.

Klohn will succeed a seat being left vacant by Joyce Wood who chose not to seek re-election.

Running unopposed for the Place 6 seat, Matthew Harmuth collected 291 votes and uncontested Place 7 candidate Dan Flag received 289 votes. Harmuth and Flagg will fill seats left vacant by incumbents Charles "Rusty" Heitzman and Glen Ray who did not seek re-election.
