Aubrey ISD officials spend first month in new space
12:01 AM CST on Saturday, November 22, 2008
The Aubrey school district celebrated its first month in new administrative offices on Thursday.
After spending more than three decades in a Tisdell Lane residence that was converted into an office building, district officials relocated to the city’s old middle school, which was left vacant in August. Administrative offices are located on the east side of the campus.
School district Superintendent James Monaco said he is pleased with the new space, where district employees have their own offices and more space to work with.
“It’s just been great,” he said. “It’s really beautiful.”
Pat Housden, Monaco’s secretary, said that before the move, up to three people were sharing a single room of office space.
One room was designated for the assistant superintendent of buildings and grounds, accounts payable office and the superintendent’s secretary, a second room was designated for Monaco’s office and another room was used for finance, human resources, food services and bus transportation offices.
The building was rather crowded, Housden said, and that was evident to anyone who visited. So, district officials moved to the middle school built in 1967 because it offers more space, they say. They are sharing the building with the directors of bus transportation, cafeterias and maintenance. A child care center, in-school suspension space and the alternative education program also are housed in the facility. District athletics teams use the gymnasium in the building in the mornings and afternoons for practice.
Because so many services are housed at the facility, Housden said, the relocation “worked out well” for the district.
While district officials have moved to new building, their previous facility is still being used. School board meetings continue to be held there, and the assistant superintendent and staff development director will continue to work out of the building. An education foundation office will be set up there as well as a second office for Monaco.
Housden said the district now has more space to better accommodate the public.
“It does make a difference,” she said. “I’m glad I’m here at this office.”
