Blotter: Police seek suspect in afternoon bank robbery

11:22 AM CST on Saturday, March 8, 2008

By Lowell Brown / Staff Writer

Denton police are searching for a man who walked into a First Convenience Bank on Thursday, demanded money and fled with an undisclosed amount of cash.

Police believe the man may have left the scene in a gray or light green sport utility vehicle with large “mud” tires, Detective Sgt. Jim Brett said.

Witnesses described the robber as a white man in his 20s, about 6 feet tall, with light hair and a medium build.

The robbery happened at about 4:15 p.m. inside the Kroger supermarket on South Loop 288.

Bank employees told police the man pulled a dark-colored bandanna over his face as he approached the bank counter and asked for money in a quiet voice. One worker thought the man was joking until he raised his voice and demanded money again, according to a police report.

The robber did not brandish a weapon or indicate that he had one, the police report said.

He stuffed the money in his jacket pockets and fled the store.
