Blotter: Bank determines teller took $2,000

07:12 AM CDT on Wednesday, June 10, 2009

By Peggy Heinkel-Wolfe / Staff Writer

A bank investigator told police Monday that a teller admitted taking $2,000 from another teller’s drawer at a branch location inside a grocery store in the 500 block of West University Drive.

The problem began in November, when the teller asked another employee to make change and then shorted the other employee in the transaction, the investigator told police. Neither of the tellers’ drawers balanced that day, triggering the investigation.

In addition to providing documents that show the teller deposited $2,000 in a personal account the same day, the investigator told police that the teller admitted to taking the money to pay a college tuition bill.

Other reports

200 block of South Bonnie Brae Street — A Denton man called police at 4 a.m. Monday to say his friend had been sexually assaulted by two men a few hours earlier at an apartment complex.

The caller had tried confronting the two men, according to the report, but called police when the fight escalated. Both the police and the victim’s friend tried to convince the woman to press charges, but she refused.

3900 block of Winston Street — A Denton man reported about 10:30 p.m. Monday that his home had been broken into, but all he could determine that the burglar took were two comforters, a pocket knife and $50 cash.

Police noted that the lock had been compromised and some drawers were open, but the house was not ransacked. The burglar did not take a flat-screen TV, computer, camera, guns or other valuables.

The man said that until his wife came home, he would not know whether any of her jewelry was missing, according to the report.

6600 block of Black Jack Oaks, Aubrey — A homebuilder reported that someone took 25 sheets of wall sheathing boards and three rolls of board tape from the front of his job site before 9 a.m. Monday.

300 Marina Drive, Lake Dallas — An Irving man said someone broke into his houseboat docked at the Lakeview Marina around 6:30 a.m. Monday, taking his stereo and home theater equipment worth about $1,000. The burglar also took a bottle of whiskey worth $27.
