North Texas Battle of the Bands

The Contest Rules and Guidelines
- High school aged bands in the North Texas area are eligible ( 16 county area / listed below ). No entry fee required.
- Six Finalist will be chosen ( one by popular vote ) to perform live on Feb 29th at the Murchison Performing arts Center on the University of North Texas Campus and a winner will be announced at the end of the competition. Finalists must perform on February 29th , 2008.
- The winning band will record a music video on the John Lennon Educational Tour Bus on March 1, 2008 and receive a prize package..
- Each member must play at least one instrument or provide vocals – no karoke or sound tracks allowed.
- Basic backline gear will be provided – bass and guitar amps, drums, keyboard and sound system. Bands are responsible for bringing their own instruments and effects.
- Bands will have 10 minutes to setup and sound check and perform two songs for no more than 10 minutes total.
- The contest is open to bands with 75 percent of it’s members in high school and between the age of 13- 20 years of age.
- Bands must have at least three members but no more than eight.
- Each member must provide accurate contact information
- All genre of music is eligible – rock, country, jazz, pop, punk, world, R&B, hip-hop, etc.
- All submissions will be uploaded in an mp3 format. Lyrics will be typed out and presented upon request w/ proof of copyright.
- All bands must upload two (2) mp3 songs with at least one (1) song being original. Any original submissions in violation of copyright not owned by the artist submitting them will be eliminated.
- Contest is open between Feb 5 – 19, 2008. Finalist will be announced shortly after the closing.
- Bands will be judged by a panel of music professionals for overall sound, entertainment value, originality, overall performance and crowd reaction. Judges decision is final.
- Show organizer will brief each band for procedure and agenda. All bands must arrive and check in by 6pm on February 29th for an 8pm show call.
- No profane, violent or socially unacceptable lyrics or behavior will be tolerated and result in an automatic disqualification.
- The Murchison Performance Hall has it’s own regulations for performers on their stage. Failure to comply with all regulations will result in automatic elimination.
- At least 50% percent of the band submitting downloads must be the same as those who are chosen to perform.
- Sponsors shall not be held responsible in any manor for loss, injury or damage incurred at said show.
- Additions or deletions to the rules may be made at the discretion of the contest sponsor and may be enacted at any time. All Prizes are subject to change
- All finalist agree to be video taped for promotional purposes and agree to gratis use of their performances and recording for the purpose of this contest.
- Winner is automatically eligible to compete in theTexas Music Project “ Texas Lone Starz” competition on May 11 at Taste Addison. Prizes to be announced. See www.texasmusicproject.org for more details. "Artists retain all rights, performances and publishing of their own compositions. Authorization to videotape the event will be requested for promotion of future events but is optional."
Eligibility – Open only to students in the 16 county area that comprises North Texas ( list ) who are enrolled full –time in accredited public, private, charter, parochial or home schools. No employees of any sponsors or their prespective parent, affiliated, and subsidiary companies, and advertising or promotional agencies, and other agents, and the immediate family of members of, and any persons domiciled with , such employees, are not eligible. For purpose of this contest, the term ”immediate family members” include spouses, grandparents, siblings, children and grandchildren. Prizes and dates may be subject to change.Students must have permission from a parent or guardian to enter. No purchase necessary.

3. Wait until Feb 25 to see if your band has been selected.
Entries must be in by February 19th. Judges will choose the top 10 bands who will be entered into the semi-finals. A final judge review will choose 5 bands for the finals — and a popular vote on www.dentonrc.com will determine the other finalist. The six finalists will perform at the Murchison Performing Arts Center on the UNT campus at 7pm on February 29, 2008.
