Blotter: Officer: Doughnuts more likely cause of stranding
07:10 AM CST on Monday, February 8, 2010
The driver of a pickup and his three intoxicated passengers got stuck in the mud early Saturday morning after allegedly doing “doughnuts” in the front yard of a residence in the 2000 block of Willowwood Street, according to a police department log.
When police arrived, the four men told the officers they had been drinking at a party earlier and were driving down the street when a deer jumped in front of the truck, according to the log, causing the driver to swerve and drive onto the grass.
The driver said he revved his truck to get out of the yard, but got stuck in the process.
A police officer who analyzed the impressions left in the ground said they appeared to be the result of doughnuts, rather than unintentional damage, according to the log. However, he noted he was unable to disprove the driver’s story.
The four men were university students, and police issued referrals on the report to their school.
