Police nab sex offender in Craigslist harassment
07:10 AM CST on Friday, March 12, 2010
Police arrested 31-year-old Jeremy Daniel Wicker and booked him into city jail Thursday on charges of harassment and making a terroristic threat.
The arrest came three days after a 21-year-old Denton woman complained to police that Wicker was stalking her.
The woman responded to an online ad allegedly placed by Wicker on Craigslist seeking a female lead singer for a Christian band. The woman told police that problems began after Wicker asked her to call him late last week to arrange an audition. She said Wicker then sent her more than 50 sexually explicit and threatening messages over the weekend.
A registered sex offender living on Fry Street in Denton, Wicker recently made a plea deal for a third-degree felony charge of online solicitation of a minor, according to court records. The victim was 14 years old.
In January, Judge Lee Gabriel signed an order of community supervision without an adjudication of guilt. Wicker agreed to five years’ probation, 160 hours of community service, a $1,500 fine and court costs.
According to Denton County court records, Wicker has received community supervision on six counts of harassment between 2005 and 2006. He also received a 180-day sentence in county jail on two more misdemeanor counts in January. He was released Feb. 1, credited with time served.
