Blotter: Report: Pair loses cool after car burglaries investigated
06:53 AM CDT on Tuesday, May 13, 2008
Two men who told a Denton police officer they were “just chillin’” went to jail on burglary charges early Friday after the officer investigated further.
The officer was responding to a report of a vehicle burglary about 4:30 a.m. in the 2600 block of West Oak Street and saw the vehicle had a broken window and missing stereo equipment. The officer drove around nearby parking lots looking for more signs of burglaries.
He saw a car in a parking lot with two men lying in front seats that had been pushed back so the men’s heads weren’t visible, according to the report. He asked the men what they were doing, and they replied, “just chillin.’”
They said they didn’t live in the apartment complex where they were parked. The visibly nervous men said they lived in Sanger and had been to a party in Krum and just decided to stop for a while, they said.
The men were separated, and one of them said they had burglarized two vehicles, according to the police report. Officers found the stolen property in the second man’s pickup truck parked at another location.
Other reports
3300 block of East University Drive — A Carrollton man told police that a Denton repair shop business refuses to release his car unless he pays an amount that is more than twice the estimate.
The man said he found the shop on the Internet. He had the car towed to Denton to the shop and was given an estimate for fixing his transmission of $1,097. He said he didn’t actually give the go-ahead for the repairs, but the next thing he knew, he received a call that the car was fixed and he owed $2,775, according to the police report. He told the business owner that he didn’t have that much money and was told he would not get his car back until he paid.
