Blotter: Shooting at Paloma Creek home under investigation

08:47 AM CDT on Wednesday, June 4, 2008

By Donna Fielder / Staff Writer

A 30-year-old man is recovering in a Dallas hospital after suffering two gunshot wounds early Tuesday in a Paloma Creek home.

Denton County sheriff’s deputies responded about 12:45 a.m. to the 1100 block of Paloma Creek Boulevard after receiving a 911 call. According to a sheriff’s report, they saw a man covered in blood stumbling out of the house.

The man told them he lived in the house with his girlfriend until a few weeks ago. He said he knocked on the door and no one answered. He said he remembered the code to open the garage door and used it to enter the house. He went up the stairs, he said, and was met at the master bedroom door by a man he knows who was pointing a gun at him.

He said he ran into a closet and was shot twice, once in the arm and once in the leg.

The woman who owns the house said that the former boyfriend called her earlier with questions about whom she had lunch with, according to the report. She heard pounding on the door, she said, and then saw the former boyfriend enter the house.

She said she began screaming at him to get out of her house. He kept coming up the stairs and pushed her out of the way and entered the bedroom.

The woman said the man walked to the closet where he knew she kept weapons. At that point, the woman’s new boyfriend, who was in the bedroom, shot him, she said.

Sheriff’s investigative Sgt. Roger Griggs said no one has been charged with any crime, but the investigation is continuing.

Other reports

Interstate 35 North — A Denton police officer arrested two men and seized a total of 4,946 grams of phencyclidine, commonly known as PCP, early Monday after a traffic stop.

The officer reported he noticed a car that was speeding and also had a burned-out light over the license plate. He stopped it about 1:15 a.m. and talked to the two men inside.

The driver told him they were returning to Oklahoma after visiting with his girlfriend in Houston. The passenger, interviewed separately, told the officer they were returning from Houston after working in construction jobs there. Both men seemed extremely nervous, according to the report.

The officer asked for permission to search the vehicle. He found a large container of sheetrock compound. When he probed the compound, he found two plastic bags inside, according to the police report.

The bags contained a gallon container and two 15.2-ounce containers of a brown liquid that tested positive for PCP, according to the report. PCP is a chemical that causes hallucinations and is listed as a controlled substance.

2500 block of North Elm Street — A man reported Monday that his daughter asked him to cash a $2,800 check through his account for her that she received for a “secret shopper” job. The check was counterfeit, he said, and the money has been deducted from his account.
