Blotter: 18-wheeler abandoned at business

07:06 AM CDT on Friday, June 6, 2008

By Donna Fielder / Staff Writer

Truckers had to negotiate around an 18-wheeler stopped in the driveway of a Denton truck stop Wednesday, so employees finally called police.

The truck was blocking the driveway in the 6000 block of Interstate 35 from 3:30 a.m. to 6:30 p.m., according to a police report. Other drivers banged on the truck’s windows and sides to try to awaken a possibly sleeping driver, to no avail.

An arriving officer could see a key in the ignition of the 18-wheeler. He found no one inside. A computer check showed the truck had been reported stolen to Fort Worth police.

Other reports

3400 block of Valley View — A man reported Wednesday that he recently checked his credit card account and found two charges he hadn’t made.

He called the number on his credit bill and learned the charges were made to view two pornography Web sites.

He doesn’t know who made the charges, he said.

1400 block of East Windsor Drive — A woman reported that she has power of attorney to act in her former husband’s financial dealings. She recently found three checks totaling about $2,300 that had been cashed with his name, which she believes to be forged.

Her husband knows the woman whose name is on the payee line, she said, but he would not be writing checks to her.

He couldn’t have written the checks, she said, because he is in prison.
