07:49 AM CDT on Tuesday, June 23, 2009

By Britney Tabor / Staff Writer

Denton police investigated an assault early Sunday that led to a man’s stabbing.

Close to 3 a.m., officers were dispatched to Denton Regional Medical Center, where they met a man who suffered a stab wound to the chest. The man told police that he was at a party when several men he did not know “jumped” him, according to a police report.

The man, who was leaving the party at the time of his attack, told police that he got into an argument with a woman outside a building in the 3900 block of East McKinney Street when a group of men approached him and began to fight him. One of the men stabbed him, and then everyone ran away, the man told police.

The stabbing victim told police he did not want to file charges. According to the report, officers said that an investigation would take place anyway.

Officers took statements from two witnesses, and they also interviewed people at the crime scene and photographed the area. The victim’s injuries also were photographed, according to the report.
