Blotter: Caregiver says he hit client with bat
07:54 AM CDT on Tuesday, July 15, 2008
A caregiver for a mentally disabled man allegedly hit him twice in the head with a baseball bat over a disagreement about a friend, according to a Friday police report.
Police responded to a disturbance in the 1800 block of North Ruddell Street about 6:25 p.m. Friday. They found a seriously injured man sitting on the couch with a large laceration on his head.
Two other men were in the apartment. They said they all lived there. Two of the men are mentally disabled, and the other two are caregivers, according to the report. The caregivers work for a private company.
Police found a bloody baseball bat in the bathroom. Detectives learned where the suspect had gone and picked him up there with no trouble.
The caregiver told detectives he was angry when his client tried to befriend a visitor to the apartment. He said he hit him in the head with a baseball bat, and then hit him a second time when he didn’t appear to have taken the first blow seriously enough, according to the police report.
Danny Alfred Padilla, 47, was in Denton County Jail on Monday charged with aggravated assault. Bail was set at $50,000. The victim remained in the critical care unit at Harris Methodist Hospital in Fort Worth.
Other reports
600 block of East Hickory Street — Police arrested a woman on outstanding warrants Friday and discovered that she had several packages that had been obtained using credit card numbers she had no cards for.
Detectives investigated and learned that the numbers belonged to a credit card belonging to someone else. The victim, when located, said he had no idea someone was using his credit card number and that he had not given anyone permission to use it.
