Blotter: Chase ends in creek, two charges

07:45 AM CDT on Thursday, July 17, 2008

By Donna Fielder / Staff Writer

Denton detectives saw a driver committing traffic violations while leaving a known drug house Monday afternoon and attempted to make a traffic stop.

The driver did not stop after turning without signaling at Sycamore and Bradshaw streets, according to the report, even after the detectives turned on their car’s emergency lights. They followed him on a twisting path for several blocks before he turned into a field.

The detectives could see the driver unlatch his seat belt and begin moving around in the car. Next, he jumped out of the moving vehicle and began running, according to the report. The car rolled into a nearby creek.

The detectives reported they could see the man emptying his pockets as he ran. When they caught him, they retraced his steps and found a bag of marijuana.

They charged him with possession of marijuana and evading detention.
