Blotter: Business investigates funds diverted from vendors
01:12 AM CDT on Saturday, August 21, 2010
A Denton business claimed that a former employee is responsible for diverting nearly $65,000 into her personal account from company vendors, according to a report filed with Denton police.
Officials with the company, located on North Loop 288, told police Thursday that the former employee is believed to have compromised the accounts of six vendors. The employee is accused of having accounts payable monies diverted into a personal bank account, according to the report.
Officials at the business said they first learned of the alleged theft when vendors started asking why their accounts were deemed unpaid.
The employee, who was responsible for cutting checks and making direct deposit payments to vendor accounts, was terminated earlier this month.
Company officials told police they had not confronted the employee. They said an internal investigation was continuing, and they would share the results with police within several days.
Other reports
300 block of North Loop 288 — A woman told police she and her young daughter were kidnapped in a carjacking.
According to a police report, the woman told an officer that a man approached her Aug. 10 in a parking lot as she was leaving a county office building.
She said the man commandeered the Ford F-150 she was driving and forced her and her daughter to go along, then drove south on Interstate 35E. For nearly two hours, the woman said, the man drove around the Colleyville and Roanoke areas, demanding money before releasing her and the girl at a Roanoke fast-food restaurant.
The woman’s father, who owns the pickup, told officers he believes that she made up the story and that her boyfriend was responsible for the vehicle’s disappearance. Police reported that the vehicle still hasn’t been recovered.
8100 block of Jim Christal Road — A man reported to police Thursday that electrical wiring was stolen from a city worksite between Wednesday night and Thursday morning. The wiring is valued at more than $1,100.
The man also told police that wiring worth about the same amount disappeared Monday. He suspects the wiring was stolen to exchange for cash at a scrap metal facility.
Officers found minimal evidence at the site, the report said.
