Blotter: Vandals paint complex red, white, blue

09:20 AM CDT on Tuesday, September 16, 2008

By Donna Fielder / Staff Writer

Vandals hit several areas of Denton on Saturday night and early Sunday, leaving spray-painted messes on buildings and vehicles.

A newspaper carrier reported two of the crimes. On his route about 5:40 p.m., he discovered two buildings in an apartment complex had been painted with red, white and blue paint in slogans, markings and scribbles, according to the report.

In the 900 block of South Welch Street, he found more graffiti at a sorority house. In one case, a door had been completely covered with paint smears.

At an apartment complex in the 1000 block of West Eagle Street, residents discovered that sometime between 1 and 7 a.m. someone used white paint to deface property. Responding officers found the graffiti sprayed in random patterns on one building and 15 vehicles in the complex.

Other reports

1500 block of Mingo Road — A woman reported about 1 a.m. Sunday that someone knocked on her apartment door. Her 13-year-old daughter opened the door and found a purple sex toy with a note that read, “Don’t tell your mother.”

The mother suspects a neighbor who has been paying a lot of attention to the girl.

500 block of North Crawford Street — A man reported Sunday night that two men flagged him down, saying they needed help. But when he stopped, the men tried to steal his car, according to the police report.

The man said the two men tried to drag him out of the Suburban he was driving but he fought them off. In the struggle, one of the men grabbed two gold chain bracelets from his wrists and took his cellphone earpiece.
