Blotter: Toilets busted at two parks over weekend

07:20 AM CDT on Wednesday, September 30, 2009

By Donna Fielder / Staff Writer

Someone disabled all the toilets at Mack Park over the weekend, and also disabled the toilets in the men’s room at South Lakes Park, according to police reports.

Thieves used tools to turn off the water, remove the tubing and steal the flush valve assemblies from all the toilets at the park in the 1700 block of East McKinney Street between Saturday and Monday.

During that same time period, someone took the flush valve assemblies from the men’s room at the park in the 500 block of Hobson Lane. The women’s restroom at South Lakes Park was not vandalized.

Police suspect the same person committed both thefts.

Other reports

9000 block of Seven Oaks Street — A 17-year-old girl told police Monday that her mother assaulted her and her friend when she tried to move out over the mother’s drug use.

The teen said she went home to gather her belongings, taking two friends with her. Her mother had begun using methamphetamines again, she said, and she was going to move in with her grandmother to get away from the drug use.

But when she told her mother, the woman flew into a rage. The girl said she didn’t know if she was high on meth or coming down from it, but she had never seen her so violent before.

The woman attacked her and kept her from leaving the bedroom. Then when the other two girls were able to get the door open so she could escape, the mother threw a drug rehabilitation book at her, the teen said, and grabbed her again. When her friend tried to intervene the mother attacked her as well, according to the report.

The teen was able to leave, taking a car that she was allowed to drive to school.

Later, the mother called police asking to file a theft report for the car and an assault report on her daughter’s friend. The officer noted he would add the information to the original report to be investigated.

1700 block of Old Justin Road, Argyle area — An 83-year-old woman reported Monday morning that she returned from a monthlong vacation in Alaska and discovered $3,400 worth of her jewelry missing.

The woman said her son and grandchildren were taking care of her house while she was gone. When she returned, she noticed part of her collection of antique jewelry was missing, and further investigation revealed about 170 pieces were gone, along with some coins.

There was no sign of forced entry, according to the police report.
