Blotter: Man reports VA check mailed to former wife’s address
12:16 AM CDT on Saturday, October 17, 2009
An Allen man told Denton police Thursday that he believes his former wife had the mailing address for his Veterans Affairs check changed to her Denton address.
The man said he didn’t receive the check when it was due and he called the agency to find out the reason it didn’t come.
Records showed that someone claiming to be him and with his identification information called to change the address. The address was the current home of his former wife.
The officer contacted the woman. She said she did receive the check but had nothing to do with the address being changed.
The woman said she took the check to her bank and was advised to cash it, so she did.
She said she thought her former husband must send her support checks and she thought he might be sending three months’ support in advance.
An investigation is continuing.

She said she was pushing a shopping cart with her handbag sitting in the front of the basket. A woman walked up to her and asked how a moveable Santa figure worked. She turned her back on her cart to help the woman.
She didn’t notice anything amiss but when she started to check out, her wallet was missing from her handbag, and she believed the woman distracted her while a cohort stole her wallet.
