07:20 AM CST on Monday, November 9, 2009

By Candace Carlisle / Staff Writer

A 15-year-old girl told police she was pushed at a Denton High School football game Friday night by an unknown man, and a paper she was reading was taken from her, according to a police report.

The teenager’s older brother tried to assault the suspect, a 48-year-old man, but police officers at the game stopped him, the report stated.

Witnesses told police the girl was handing out flyers promoting the replacement or firing of Denton football coaches, the report stated.

The suspect told police he took the flyers and threw them away, without touching the girl, and had witnesses to back him up, the report stated.

Police are investigating the incident.

Other reports

Fallmeadow Street — Police responding to a 911 call from an 8-year-old girl found the girl’s mother injured after an argument with the girl’s father, according to a police report.

While cooking dinner, the couple started verbally arguing in front of their three children. The argument quickly escalated and became physical when the man started choking his wife, the report stated.

The woman tried to get away, but the man allegedly slammed her head into a wall. The woman grabbed a knife and told the man she would kill him if he touched her again. The man took the knife from her and slammed her head against a wall again, according to the report.

Police showed up and arrested the man. The woman refused medical attention and would not give police a written statement of the assault, the report stated.

Vine Street — A woman found her front door kicked in Friday morning and her bicycle stolen, after she returned from spending the night at a friend’s residence, according to a police report. Nothing else from the apartment was taken, the report stated.

The bike was worth about $120 and the damage to the door frame and door is estimated to cost $250 to repair, according to the report.

2300 block of Colorado Boulevard — A man allegedly walked into a store, loaded DVDs into a bag and left the store without paying Friday night.

Store employees told police that similar thefts have occurred in the past and the suspect in Friday night’s theft matched the description in other instances, according to a police report.
