Blotter: Police arrest man after disturbance at house
07:01 AM CST on Tuesday, November 18, 2008
Denton police arrested a man Sunday after he allegedly tried to take an officer’s weapon and interfere with an emergency call, according to a report.
Police were dispatched to the 2500 block of Stockbridge Road at about 9:30 a.m. Sunday on a domestic disturbance call that was cut off when someone in the residence hung up the phone, according to the report.
When officers arrived at the residence, people had gathered outside where they said they could hear a man and woman screaming at one another and items being thrown around in the residence. Police noticed a bedroom window that had been shattered by a thrown object.
Upon entering the residence, police found a man, who was wearing only underwear, in a corner of the home pulling a woman by her shirt. The report indicates that when an officer stepped in to help the woman, the man started to curse at the officer and tried to stop him from assisting the woman.
Police said they were able to get one handcuff on the man before he tried to scuffle with them and eventually attempted to grab an officer’s pistol. The scuffle lasted more than five minutes, the report said, before police were able to get the man under control and handcuffed.
Emergency medics were called to check out the man, who was bleeding from the scuffle. Police reported that once medics checked him out, the man was taken into custody and transported to city jail.
Other reports
100 block of Malone Street — A preschool was placed under lockdown and eventually closed Friday after a woman reported to police that she feared her child might be in danger.
According to the police report, the woman stated that her ex-husband was supposed to pick up their child from the school for a court-ordered visitation. When he did not arrive, she checked her e-mail to see if he left a message.
The woman told police she received an e-mail from the man saying that he was going to kill himself. She said she called police because she feared he would pick up their child before carrying out the threat.
The school was placed on lockdown until shortly after police arrived, and parents were then asked to come and retrieve their children due to a custody incident. The child of the formerly married couple was picked up by a family member and taken to a safe place.
The report said police eventually contacted the man by phone; the man denied sending the e-mail and claimed that the woman entered his e-mail account and sent the messages to herself. Before police could determine the man’s location, he hung up. Police continue to investigate.
2200 block of South Interstate 35E — Someone broke into a lingerie store between Saturday evening and early Sunday morning using a pry bar to enter through the back door, according to a police report. About $2,700 was taken from store registers. No merchandise was reported stolen. The case is under investigation.
300 block of Eagle Drive — A man reported that his ex-girlfriend’s new boyfriend assaulted him when he met them at a gas station Sunday to drop off his child with the mother.
According to the police report, the man claimed that his ex-girlfriend’s companion came to the driver’s side window of his vehicle and punched and grabbed him. The man said he got out of the car and the two men fought briefly. The man contacted police after the scuffle.
600 block of Austin Street — A man who claimed he locked the door to his home upon leaving for work Friday returned to find his home unlocked. According to the police report, a number of electronics such as a PlayStation 2 game console, a DVD player, a satellite receiver and DVDs were missing from the residence.
Police noted that there was no forced entry into the residence, and because of dust on surfaces, no fingerprints could be retrieved.
A note was left on the owner’s coffee table indicating that a pest control service had come to inspect the home. According to the report, the company may have forgotten to lock the door before leaving.
