Blotter: Residents report that psychic took their valuables

12:45 AM CST on Tuesday, December 1, 2009

By Karina Ramírez / Staff Writer

A woman has ripped off seven residents by saying she could help rid them of their troubles, according to a police report.

The woman approached the victims on Nov. 20 in the 1400 block of East McKinney Street and offered to change their luck if they turned over their valuables first, according to the report. She would then “remove the demons of spirits from each item,” the report stated.

Professing to be a psychic, the woman provided victims with her business card and a number to call.

Victims gave the woman an estimated $22,000 in jewelry and $40,000 in cash, according to the report.

Police said the woman is targeting lower-class Hispanics, assuming they won’t report the thefts to authorities, the report said.

Police are investigating the case.

Other reports

3000 block of Swisher Road — A man told sheriff’s deputies that he was assaulted and robbed by two men Friday.

The victim said that after he left a supermarket, a man grabbed him by the neck, pulled him out of his Ford pickup and assaulted him, injuring his torso, hips and head.

The assailant and another man stole the keys to the victim’s pickup and his wallet with two debit cards and his Social Security card, according to the report.

The victim was taken to a hospital in Fort Worth and treated for a broken jaw, broken eye socket and two broken ribs, according to the report.

4000 block of Silver Dome Road — A 33-year-old man told police a woman had been calling his cellphone threatening to burn down his house and threatening his family’s lives.

“Remember her death is on your watch as you watch them lower her into ground,” the woman allegedly said in one phone call, made Sunday.

The man said he met the woman at a gathering for one of his high school friends a while ago. He said he learned that she had tried to sell two guns in exchange for drugs, possibly methamphetamine.

3000 block of Webb Road — A 17-year-old girl reported that a man kissed her while she tried to sleep at her cousin’s house early Saturday.

The girl said the man had been smoking marijuana and drinking beer when he went to the living room where she was sleeping and started kissing her.

The teenager told the man she needed to go to the bathroom, then crawled out the bathroom window and hid behind a neighbor’s house, she told police. She then ran to a business complex, where she called her mother, according to the report.

The man told police he and the girl were smoking together and had known each other a long time. Her lips touching his felt strange, he told police, but he would never hurt her.

The man was later arrested and charged with sexual assault and possession of marijuana.

2900 block of Montebello Drive — A model home that was pending contract was broken into, according to a police report Sunday morning.

Someone broke into the house in an attempt to steal a stainless steel refrigerator, according to the report.

The developer of the complex had moved the refrigerator to another house before the burglary attempt.

Police said that at least one other attempted burglary had been reported recently at the complex.
