Blotter: Report: Teen escapes man’s grasp

07:15 AM CST on Wednesday, December 9, 2009

By Donna Fielder / Staff Writer

Police are paying close attention to a neighborhood where a 15-year-old girl said a man tried to drag her into his car.

The teen’s mother contacted police Friday to report that she had just found out about the incident that occurred Nov. 30.

The girl and her brother were walking around in the 1200 block of Laurel Street and the brother ran ahead. The girl said a car stopped behind her and a man she didn’t know got out.

According to the report, the man said he thought he knew her and began asking questions, wanting her telephone number and asking what school she attended.

She said she told the man she did not know him and continued walking home.

The man grabbed her arms from behind and began pulling her toward his car, she said. She noticed that the back passenger door of his sport utility vehicle was open, as well as the driver’s door.

She turned around and kicked the man several times, managing to pull free. Then she ran down an alley and into her house, according to the report.

She didn’t tell her mother because she didn’t want to upset her, the girl said.

The next morning she saw the SUV stopped in front of a house across the street. When her father walked out of the house, the vehicle drove away.

But in the past few days, the girl said, she has not been able to sleep because she is afraid. She began having trouble in school and a principal asked her if something was wrong, according to the report.

When she told him about the incident he called her mother, who asked a friend who is an officer in another agency what to do. He told her to notify Denton police.

Other reports

3900 block of Teasley Lane — A woman reported Monday that she had a manicure at a nail salon Friday evening. The man who worked on her nails took her ring off her finger so he could use the creams and other liquids on her hands.

When she got home, she realized he had not given her ring back, she said. The salon was closed by the time she returned.

On Saturday she went to the salon and asked for her ring. No one knew anything about a ring, she told police, and the man who took it off her hand seemed unconcerned. The ring was a platinum and diamond band.

2500 block of Lillian Miller Drive — A dentist reported Monday morning that her office had been burglarized. Someone threw a large decorative rock though the glass door to make entry, according to the report.

The intruder took a large tank of nitrous oxide, or “laughing gas” from a closet, according to the report. The tank was 4 feet tall, blue and heavy.
