Blotter: State school reports stabbing of client

08:31 AM CST on Friday, December 11, 2009

By Donna Fielder / Staff Writer

A Denton State School client was stabbed by another client in their living area, according to a report Wednesday to police.

An employee of the state home for the mentally impaired called at about 10 p.m. to report the incident. She said that the attacker must have one-on-one supervision at all times. She agreed to relieve the attendant for a break, she said. When she walked into the room, the client began yelling at her to get out. The client then rushed out of the room and into the kitchen, where she began rummaging in a drawer.

The employee thought she was looking for food, but she grabbed a pair of scissors. Employees began getting clients to safety. One female client who is blind and requires round-the-clock attention could not be moved fast enough, according to the report.

The angry client stabbed her six times in the neck, back and head. Paramedics took her to a hospital emergency room for treatment of non-life-threatening wounds, and staff members and police subdued the other woman and took the scissors from her. Police are investigating.

Other reports

800 block of East McKinney Street — An employee arrived at a bread store to open for business at about 8 a.m. Wednesday and found the glass front door had been smashed with a rock. When police arrived, they entered the store and found that no one was inside and the cash register was missing. The employee reported that no cash was inside the safe.

An officer drove around the neighborhood to check for other break-ins. He noticed a smashed glass door at a salon in the 1000 block of East McKinney Street. He could see part of a cash register lying on the floor, according to the report. The owner arrived, and they viewed surveillance tape. The tape showed a man walking around the shop, looking at clothing and picking out a white hat. It was not known if anything else was taken.

2200 block of South Interstate 35E — An employee of a vision center reported Tuesday that two men came into the business at about 7:30 p.m. One man began asking strange questions. The other man quickly grabbed a laptop computer sitting on a desk, and the two men fled.
