Woman orders Nintendos, reports receiving nothing

11:58 PM CST on Wednesday, December 19, 2007

By Donna Fielder / Staff Writer

A woman who ordered seven Nintendo game systems from the Internet told Denton police Tuesday that she did not receive them and the seller will not return her messages.

The victim said she found a Web site that offered the game systems for $76.04 apiece. But the seller required a minimum purchase of $500. So she ordered seven, she said, totaling $614, including shipping.

But the merchandise didn’t arrive, even after she sent many messages of inquiry. She learned her money was claimed in Rome, Italy, and she needs help in getting it back, according to the police report.

Other reports

1400 block of East McKinney Street — Denton County sheriff’s deputies arrested a man on a charge of unlawfully carrying a weapon after discovering the cane he carried into the Denton County Courthouse had a sword concealed inside.

Courthouse guards noticed the man came in carrying the cane and leaned it against the desk when he went through a metal detector. The guard picked up the cane and thought it felt heavier than a cane should, according to the report.

The guard examined the cane and was able to separate the top from the cane. Attached to the top was a long sword. The man protested that the cane was a recent Christmas gift and he had no idea it contained a sword.

2200 block of South Interstate 35E — A shoplifting charge turned into a robbery charge Tuesday afternoon after a woman who allegedly stole a cellphone reportedly threatened to kill the store clerk.

The clerk told police the woman, who had a teenaged girl and an infant in tow, was looking at the phone at his kiosk in the Golden Triangle Mall about 12:30 p.m. Another customer asked to look at a phone and he was momentarily distracted, he said.

When he looked up, the phone was gone and he saw the woman disappearing into a store that has an exit to the parking lot.

He gave chase and caught up with the woman as she tried to get the baby into the car. He grabbed the car door and demanded the telephone back. The woman told him, “I might have a gun and I might shoot you,” and sped away, according to the report.

The clerk obtained her license number, which showed the woman to live at a Justin address. A Justin officer visited the woman, who denied taking the phone, according to the police report.

800 block of Circle View Lane —A woman believes a magazine salesman stole her $3,000 ring, according to a police report.

The woman said she came home about 2 p.m. and laid the ring on a table in the entranceway to her home. A magazine salesman rang her doorbell and she allowed him inside for a few moments until she found out what he wanted.

She sent him on his way without buying any magazines; however she then noticed that her ring was missing.
