Blotter: Crimes could be tied
Denton robbery has similarities to home invasion near Argyle04:36 PM CST on Tuesday, December 22, 2009
Denton city and county investigators are comparing notes to determine whether home invasion robberies in each jurisdiction might be connected.
Denton County Sgt. Roger Griggs said Monday that a robbery in Denton late Friday night has much in common with a Dec. 9 robbery in the county jurisdiction. Elderly people were the victims in both robberies.
“We’ll put our heads together,” Griggs said. “They have the same MO [modus operandi]. They wore similar clothing, and in each case, we had four Hispanic males. They wore masks and gloves in both cases, they occurred about the same time of night and they took jewelry.”
In the county crime, four men burst into a couple’s bedroom in the Argyle area. The men tied the couple up, stripped the woman’s $15,000 wedding ring set from her hand and took a large amount of cash.
About 11:30 p.m. Friday, four men with heavy Hispanic accents broke the glass on a patio door and tied up a woman in the 2200 block of Southridge Drive. They were shouting “where’s the money?” and “where’s the cocaine?” at the frightened elderly woman, who lives alone.
They left with two antique diamond rings, some other jewelry and a small amount of cash.
The woman’s wrists were bruised because one of the men held her arms tightly and bound her ankles, according to police.
Other reports
Interstate 35 — Officers responded about 4:15 a.m. Sunday to reports from motorists that a man was chasing a naked woman through interstate traffic.
They found the man walking down the highway. The man told officers that he and his girlfriend were driving to Oklahoma to gamble and began arguing, so he pulled over. His girlfriend jumped out of the car and he caught her, he said, denying that she was nude. He said she locked herself inside his car and drove away without him.
Another officer found the car with a naked woman at the wheel. The officer instructed the woman to dress and then questioned her. She said her boyfriend pulled to the side of the interstate to urinate. Afterward, he wanted to have sex, she said. But she said no, telling him they could be arrested.
He was angry and pulled a gun from under the seat and pointed it at her head, she said. He made her take off all her clothes and then told her she had five seconds to run for her life. She did.
She said she thought someone would help her. But no one stopped, and one car struck her with its side mirror, knocking her to the pavement. The boyfriend picked her up and took her back to the car. She was able to get inside and drive away, she said.
The boyfriend was arrested on outstanding warrants.
210 S. Woodrow Lane — A woman reported that she left her handbag in her car while she visited an inmate at the Denton County Jail on Saturday night. When she returned to her car about 8:45 p.m., she discovered that someone had broken a car window and had stolen her purse.
