Blotter: Intruder in bathroom a surprise for Aubrey family

12:00 AM CST on Tuesday, December 29, 2009

By Lowell Brown / Staff Writer

An Aubrey family arriving home Sunday night after days away was shocked to find an intruder hiding in a bathroom closet.

The family arrived at their home in the 6300 block of Lone Star Lane to find the man, who had locked himself inside the master bedroom, according to a Denton County Sheriff’s Office report. The father picked the lock with a hanger, searched the room and found the intruder.

The man claimed he didn’t steal anything and quickly fled on foot. The father followed in a vehicle but lost track of him in a pasture, the report states.

The family said nothing appeared to be missing from the home.

The suspect was described as a white man wearing a tan jacket, a black cap and a scarf.

Aubrey police are investigating whether the suspect is a man they believe has been involved in other area burglaries, according to the sheriff’s office report.

Other reports

Two locations — The Christmas Eve snowstorm made for hazardous travel across North Texas, but the sheriff’s office took two reports over the weekend from people who had particular problems.

A Forestburg woman lost control of her car and got stuck in a ditch off FM455 in Slidell, just east of the Wise-Denton county line. She left the car there and returned later to find someone had driven it about 200 feet into another ditch, slamming into two road signs on the way, according to a sheriff’s office report. A CD player and debit card were reported missing from the vehicle.

In Pilot Point, a man driving to his father’s house got stuck in the mud on Lights Ranch Road. When he returned the next day to retrieve his truck, he discovered that someone had broken several windows and dented the driver’s side front door and rear fender, according to a sheriff’s office report. Nothing was missing from inside the truck.

Two locations — Denton police took two reports Sunday from people whose vehicles were egged.

In the first case, a man said someone egged his car late Saturday or early Sunday while it was parked outside his home in the 700 block of Thomas Street. It was the third time his car had been egged in as many years, according to the police report.

In the second case, a resident in the 1600 block of Hercules Lane said someone threw eggs at his truck overnight Saturday, two weeks after his wife’s van was egged and police started closer patrols of the street.

The officer who responded to the scene reported seeing eggs smashed across the truck’s front passenger side.

“Since temperatures were below freezing, the eggs were frozen into place,” the officer reported.

The complainant in the second case said other vehicles had been egged on Beatriz Drive. The officer couldn’t verify the claim.
