Body of Hickory Creek man found

11:04 AM CDT on Tuesday, March 31, 2009

Staff Report

The body of a Hickory Creek man who was reported missing a week ago has been found and recovered, according to Denton County Sheriff’s deputies.

Michael Wells Barton, 54, was reported missing by his wife at March 24. His sailboat had been found a day earlier grounded in a cove of Lewisville Lake south of Lakewood Village. The Texas Department of Wildlife game wardens and the Denton County Sheriff’s Office suspended their search of the lake after three days.

The Sheriff’s Office reported receiving a call at 7 p.m. Monday, that a male body had been found floating near the lake shore at the end of Garza Lane near where the victim was last seen. The game warden, sheriff’s deputies and Little Elm emergency personnel responded to the scene, and the Tarrant County Medical Examiner identified the body this morning. The cause of death is pending autopsy results.
