Five Krum High School students camped out by one of the Salvation Army’s red kettles to play holiday music earlier this month.

Five juniors and seniors in the Krum High School band volunteered for Salvation Army’s Red Kettle campaign before Christmas, offering more than just bell-ringing.

As shoppers entered a Denton store, students Warren Bagley, Teri Bassinger, Lauren Coley, Kayde James and Natalie Robbins played Christmas songs and carols.

Band students were required  to use their musical talents throughout the holiday season.

Other band students performed at Nelson Children’s Center, participated with the Krum choir, played church performances and performed in nursing homes.

Kindergartners interact with Santa Claus

Four Krum kindergarten classes took part in “Cooking With Santa,” a video conference call that allowed students to interact with Santa Claus and his elves before the winter break.

The holiday program, created and hosted by the Region 11 Telecommunications Network, which is part of the Fort Worth-based Education Service Center, allowed students to enjoy live storytelling and jokes.

The event also included a question-and-answer session and a cooking lesson. Santa and an elf named Ann taught students how to bake St. Nick’s favorite cookies — and included addition and subtraction lessons.
