Residential foreclosures set new record in Denton County

07:39 AM CDT on Friday, June 19, 2009

By Candace Carlisle / Staff Writer

Residential foreclosures have set another record in Denton County with 644 homes posted for foreclosure at next month’s auction.

Denton County’s foreclosure postings for July increased 68 percent over last July, according to a report from Foreclosure Listing Service Inc.

So far, there have been 3,819 foreclosure notices posted, or 651 more foreclosure postings than last year, the report stated.

“This has represented only the second time that year-to-date home postings in Denton County have reached into the 3,000s,” said George Roddy Sr., president of the listing company, in a written release.

In the Dallas-Fort Worth market, 6,072 homes were posted for foreclosure next month — a record for the area, according to the report.

That represents a 62 percent increase over last July for the four-county metro area.

Not all homes listed for foreclosure are sold at auction, and about 48 percent of homes listed for next month’s auction have been listed before, said Bonnie Brown, a spokeswoman with the listing service, in a written response.

For the past four months, residential foreclosures in the area have exceeded 5,000 notices a month, the report stated.
