Halloween and Fall Events

THURSDAY

 

4 to 4:45 p.m. — Halloween Grossology at North Branch Library, 3020 N. Locust St. Kids ages 8-12 can make fake blood, vomit and other disgusting things in time for Halloween. Free. Call 940-349-8752.

6 to 8 p.m. — Boo at the U, TWU’s fall festival, with treats, train rides, carnival games and a haunted house. At the TWU Student Union, at the corner of Bell Avenue and Administration Drive. Free. Call 940-898-3641.

 

FRIDAY

 

4 to 6 p.m. — 2009 Safe Spook in downtown Sanger, including a costume contest and business decoration competition. Call 940-458-7702.

6 to 7 p.m. — Mall-O-Ween at Golden Triangle Mall, 2201 N. I-35E. The mall and Journey Church offer a bounce house, cotton candy, face painting and trick-or-treating at participating stores. Free photos will be available.

6 to 8 p.m. — Harvest festival at Full Gospel Family Worship Center, 209 Mockingbird Lane. Free. Call 940-382-1822.

 

SATURDAY

 

11 a.m. to 3 p.m. — Annual Barn Bash and Chili Cook-Off hosted by Riding Unlimited at its ranch, 9168 T.N. Skiles Road, Ponder. Call 940-479-2016 or e-mail ridingunlimited@aol.com .

1 to 2 p.m. — Kids N Nature Halloween Crafts at Johnson Branch Unit, Ray Roberts Lake State Park. Free with park admission, which is $5 per person for ages 13 and older.

5 to 6 p.m. — Trick-or-Treat for Children: Denton high school and middle school students will collect money door to door for UNICEF. Call 940-369-3000.

5 to 7 p.m. — “Trunk or Treat” sponsored by the Pilot Point Chamber of Commerce at Sonic Drive-In, 300 S. U.S. Highway 377. Costumed kids get a free corny dog from Sonic, and local business owners will be handing out treats. The area will be blocked off.

5 to 8 p.m. — Aubrey pet costume contest and “Trunk or Treat,” next door to Aubrey Fire Station No. 1, 200 W. Sycamore St. Pets in costume should be ready by 5 p.m., and judging will begin at 5:30 p.m. Prizes will be awarded for the top three entries. “Trunk or Treat” will be from 6 to 8 p.m.

6 to 7:30 p.m. — Children’s Fall Festival at McKinney Street Baptist Church, 3000 E. McKinney St. Call 940-387-3650 or visit www.msbcdenton.org .

6 to 8 p.m. — Halloween Carnival and Haunted House at Martin Luther King Jr. Recreation Center, 1300 Wilson St. Call 940-349-8575 for more information.

6 to 9 p.m. — Carnival 31 at First Baptist Church of Denton, 1100 Malone St., including games, prizes, bounce houses, laser tag, cotton candy, balloon animals and candy. Free. Call 940-382-2577 for more information.

6:30 to 7 p.m. — Costume contest at Isle du Bois Unit Interpretive Center, Ray Roberts Lake State Park. Everyone wins a prize, but the top three entries will get a special prize. Free with park admission, which is $5 per person for ages 13 and older.

7 to 8 p.m. — Halloween Night Hike on Lost Pines Nature Trail at the Isle du Bois Unit, Ray Roberts State Park. Hikers can wear costumes; wear closed-toe shoes and bring a flashlight. Park personnel will provide red cellophane to cover flashlights and protect night vision. Listen for owls, search for creepy crawlies and hear funny Halloween stories. Free with park admission, which is $5 per person for ages 13 and older.

8 p.m. — Jack-O-Lantern Jog 5K run and 1-mile walk, starting at North Lakes Park, 2001 Windsor Drive. For more information or to register, visit www.dentonparks.com or call 940-349-7275.

IN THE REGION

Through Oct. 31 — Pumpkin Patch at Rejoice Lutheran Church, 532 E. Sandy Lake Road in Coppell. Hours are 3 to 8:30 p.m. Monday through Friday, 9 a.m. to 8:30 p.m. Saturday and noon to 8:30 p.m. Sunday. Groups are invited to visit in the mornings for story time. Call 972-724-2323.

Through Oct. 31 — Screams Halloween Theme Park, 2511 FM66 in Waxahachie. Hours are 7:30 p.m. to 1:30 a.m. Fridays and Saturdays. Tickets are $21.99 for ages 6 and older, free for children 5 and younger. Visit www.screamspark.com .

6 p.m. Oct. 31 — “Guts and Glory” 24-Hour Film Race presented by VideoFest. Eight teams will meet at the Angelika Theater Cafe at Mockingbird Station, 5321 E. Mockingbird Lane, Suite 230, Dallas. Films must incorporate a surprise theme, location and prop. Teams will race to make their films by 7 p.m. Nov. 1. Films will be screened Nov. 6 as part of VideoFest. Registration is $100.
