Police Blotter: Woman reports she was sexually assaulted at party

06:49 AM CST on Tuesday, January 15, 2008

By Donna Fielder / Staff Writer

A woman reported to police that a man sexually assaulted her early Sunday after she went to bed at a house where she attended a party.

The woman said she was invited to the party in the 3000 block of North Bell Avenue and took half a Xanax pill before she left. She drank two mixed drinks containing Everclear and orange juice, and a beer at the party, she said, and then took a few puffs from a “blunt” marijuana cigar.

She began to feel strange and believes someone might have put something in her drink, she said.

She decided to sleep at the house and went into an empty room and went to bed. An acquaintance came into the room and asked her to have sex, she said. She refused, and the man forced himself on her, according to the report.

She said she then went to sleep in the bed.

Police received conflicting reports from witnesses, who said they saw the victim asleep on the couch, according to a report, and an investigation is in progress.

700 block of North Crawford Street — An intoxicated man tried to cut a relative with a knife during a football-watching party, according to a report.

The man showed up uninvited but was admitted because his wife was a relative, according to the report. He was intoxicated when he arrived. When the woman’s uncle gave her a hug, the man became angry, accused his wife of having an affair and retrieved a knife from his truck. He swung the knife at the relative but missed. Police took him to jail on a charge of aggravated assault.
