Police Blotter: Woman: Magazine seller intrusive
08:19 AM CST on Thursday, January 31, 2008
A magazine salesman pushed his way into a woman’s house, kissed her and left a rude note when she locked herself into a bedroom, she told police Tuesday.
The woman said the man who said his name was “Kyle” rang her bell about noon and began a rapid-fire sales pitch, never pausing when she tried to say no.
Then he pushed past her into her house, she said.
She could not get him to leave the residence in the 1200 block of Cleveland Street, so she decided to buy a magazine to get him out of her living room. He made sexual comments about her figure, she said, and then he kissed her against her will.
She ran into a bedroom and locked the door.
When she heard him leave, she went back into the living room and found a note left beside her magazine subscription receipt. The note read, “I did it with Kyle and I’m way too tired for you.”
Other reports
2500 block of Clubhouse Drive — Someone claiming to be from the Social Security Administration called a woman 20 times over a weekend, including a Sunday and a federal holiday, trying to obtain her checking account number, she told police.
The person told her she was due $3,000 for an overpayment to Social Security and the check would be direct-deposited to her account.
The woman did not reveal her account number.
1100 block of South Avenue C — A waitress at a club reported that someone took her bankbook from her apron and stole her tips and cash receipts, totaling $200, from it, she told police.
She said that a fight broke out in the club about 1:40 a.m. and about 30 men were involved in the fight.
She was trapped in the midst of it and tried to get out. But she was knocked down and knocked unconscious, she said, and taken to a hospital emergency room. When she was released the next day, she could not find her property.
The manager said the club would not be paying her hospital bill, she said, and does not subscribe to Workman’s Compensation so she would have to pay the bill herself. He gave her $60 to repay her lost money.
Stewart Road at Hercules Lane — An officer making a traffic stop discovered the driver was illegally driving with an occupational license and had no insurance.
While talking to the man, the officer smelled fresh marijuana, he noted. He arrested the man on the driver’s license charge and searched the car prior to impounding it. He found in the back floorboard a shopping bag containing a big block of marijuana wrapped in plastic. The marijuana weighed 6 pounds, according to the police report.
